My First Thoughts on the Storz & Bickel Crafty+

Blog post by Luke McCapes, Canna Connect

Storz & Bickel products are a good starting point for me because prior to this, my knowledge of the brand was limited to the Volcano and those big plastic bags that people took large drags from. Having tried these out at different Canna Connect MN events, I was intrigued that these vaporizers are approved medical delivery devices in the EU. Vaping was also not new to me. I have been a nicotine vape user for a few years (to cut down so I can quit all together, save money, etc), we all know the lies we tell ourselves.…

I wanted to make this experiment as real as possible, so you get what you get, complete with my amateur video making skills when we get that far. These will be my real, unbiased opinions on a product. I feel I am a truthful person so I am not planning to candy coat any findings in this experiment. I received my Crafty+ device from Storz & Bickel and did the unboxing. Basic clean packaging that was concise and to the point.

You know there are those certain products and brands that have “come into their own” (like an affluent bloodline or gentry), they really no longer need the fancy advertising to sell their products? Storz & Bickel just has that feel and vibe.

During my first few days using the Crafty+ and I was still on the fence about this device. There is something about the feeling the earthy, rich smoke filling your lungs with that magic smell and tingle that I wasn't getting with this vaping device. I do not get a real pull or a hit from it. Am I using it wrong? The instructions were very “Ikea-esque”, so I did what all of us Americans do when they need valid instructions, I went on Youtube.

Storz & Bickel Crafty Product Review

My opinion is that Storz & Bickel could do a better job on education, especially for a medical type device. So far using this, I feel reminded of using a nebulizer at the doctor with a low slow weak stream.

Upon playing around and investigating further, I used the web based app and set the temp a little higher. I also found that using the first “boost” setting really helped to get the unit up to speed for myself. The vape pull and draw are better after the first boost and then I can vape the lower setting for longer. This really has alleviated the lost feeling of taking a draw and not getting anything.

Another added note: The Crafty+ comes with a small pack of replacement parts. Pull the concentration or dosing capsule out, pack that lightly and try smoking like normal. Once I tried this, my hit issues and vape quality went way up! You only get one of these so try it out, so I immediately ordered a box of 40, and a magazine to load them in for when out and about. Plus, you can reuse them, and they keep your device super clean. I have been using these most of the time now as they are super clean and easy to use.

I added a few accessories to make adopting the Crafty+ a little easier. The Concentration caps and the “Magazine” to carry them in, a hard case and the bowl filling aid.

After deciding to temporarily commit to the new Crafty+ device and leave my trusty brass “Proto-Pipe” in its case for now (It still comes out on special occasions when I want that full magic smoky flavor), I am learning more every day, the nuances of these devices. They have their ~isms, and a very common thing I am hearing is that I am not alone in the feeling of lost draw with the vapes. Rest assure, I am looking into an answer and will be glad to report back. The Crafty+ is growing on me and my next blog is going to touch base with the lack of vape we are seeing as well as my next question;

Can I quit using nicotine all together with Cannabis?
